Is your building accessible?
Making services and facilities available to people with impairments is great, but what if they physically can't reach them?
Your home, church or business, can cause disability.
CBM strives to improve the physical environment for people with disabilities so they can more easily access and use services and facilities.
This is done through networking and sharing resources about how to improve access. CBM also work as advocates to raise and address these issues amongst other development and aid organisations.
Examples of physical environment barriers include:
- Surgery at a clinic that is days away from a remote village
- People with impairments being unable to access and use local wells or water facilities
- Whether people with disabilities can get transport to and from schools or jobs
- Inaccessibility to buildings and facilities such as schools, medical services, shops. Ramps can be installed to make access easier
Promoting Access to the Built Environment
CBM has developed guidelines to assist partner organisations and other interested parties in creating a more fully accessible physical environment.
Use CBM's Access Manual to assist in promoting access to the built environment.
