Do your policies give ALL a fair go?
Do you take for granted the right to an education... or employment... or owning a home?
Equal
opportunity is a familiar concept in First World
countries but this is not the case everywhere.
Some
developing countries have organisational and legal systems and policies that can
be barriers for people with disabilities.
Are you excluding people with disabilities?
Examples
include:
- Employers with policies, stated
or unstated, to not employ people with disabilities
- In some areas of a particular
country, children do not have an automatic right to an education. A
parent may want a child with a disability to go to school but there may be no
legal framework to fight for that right.
CBM works
with its partners and disabled persons groups to lobby for policy and legal
changes all over the world to give people with impairments equal rights. On a
practical level, this includes encouraging local businesses to employ people
with disabilities and provide support with integration and systems.
