In memory of Bethany
Stories | June 22, 2020
Bethany Wake was a remarkable 15-year-old Australian girl who loved God and people with a passion.
Bethany was devoted to helping the poor and disadvantaged. She had a particular heart for women suffering from obstetric fistula and she dreamed of becoming a midwife one day.
In her life she began fundraising and awareness (the Blue Box) – even as she battled aggressive brain cancer. Her legacy continues to this day and many others inspired by her passion continue to give.
Sadly, Bethany died in 2011 but her family and friends were committed to keeping her legacy alive. Today CBM benefits from the Bethany Wake Fund, established to perpetuate Bethany’s memory. The Bethany Wake Fund will directly benefit CBM’s fistula treatment and prevention work in Africa.
Total funds raised in Bethany’s memory: $234,673
