Your donations helped 4.1 million people

Through your compassion, your commitment to social justice and your generous charitable support, in 2023, CBM Australia directly transformed the lives of more than 4.1 million people with disabilities and their families through program partnerships, advocacy and advisory work.

Our programs and our Inclusion Advisory Group worked in 34 of the poorest countries in the Pacific, Asia and Africa to end the cycle of poverty and disability.

Because of your generosity to help those in need living in poverty, CBM Australia can continue to use our experience working alongside people with disabilities and organisations of people with disabilities to create an ongoing ripple effect that ensures widespread, systematic change. Thank you!

What does the money you donate go towards?

CBM Australia understands the impact donations – big or small – can have on individuals and communities, which is why we make sure every dollar donated goes towards driving positive change in the lives of those who need it the most living in low income countries around the world.

In 2023, for every dollar given to CBM Australia, 74 cents went directly towards supporting our life-changing programs, 21 cents was carefully invested in generating future income so we can reach even more people, leaving 5 cents for essential administration, infrastructure and systems in order to deliver our life-changing work. In 2023, for every dollar CBM Australia spent on fundraising, we raised over three times that amount. All figures and ratios shown come from CBM Australia’s audited financial statements.

Here are some ways your charitable contributions have already helped change the lives of men, women and children living in poverty:

  • Helping empower people with impairments such as loss of sight or mobility to take back their livelihoods and gain access to medical support and disability assistance.
  • Advocating for comprehensive and inclusive health care and assistance in countries such as Nigeria.
  • Funding life-changing surgeries which otherwise would not be possible without your donations, leaving thousands of individuals  living with  curable conditions such as cataracts and clubfoot.
  • Restoring eyesight for vulnerable children living in poverty, without vision. Your donations help save thousands of children from experiencing disability inequality.

Together we can do more

You, our generous supporters, know that people with disabilities are more likely to live in poverty, and people living in poor communities are more likely to have or acquire a disability.

We know more than one in five of the world’s poorest people has a disability. We know that 200 million children under five years of age do not reach their cognitive and social-emotional development potential. And we know that people with disabilities living in poverty face stigma, violence and discrimination; many are invisible.

People with disabilities living in poverty have reduced access to food, health care, education, rehabilitation and assistive devices, living in conditions that are often unsafe and inaccessible. This means a lack of key opportunities like livelihoods or training. And now, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation is even more dire. The World Bank estimates that between 143 and 163 million people joined the global poor in 2021.

CBM’s experience, expertise, partnerships and unwavering commitment to social justice and human rights ensures we can create a ripple effect that will change lives, change communities and change systems. Now, more than ever, we need you to support us to ensure compassionate and sustainable change that will end the cycle of poverty and disability, and leave no one behind.
